Our initial cost estimate is based on the programming documents, quantity take-offs, the construction costs we have encountered on previous similar projects, and our current construction cost database.
When we provide the project team the initial cost model (and all following cost models), it is our goal to fully communicate our understanding of the where the project is at that point of the design process along with the supporting information to allow them to understand what the cost is based upon. To do this, we include:
- Cost Summary
- Detailed Cost Estimate
- Preliminary Project Schedule
- Allowances & Unit Prices
- Clarifications & Assumptions
In addition to completing milestone estimates, the cost model is continually updated based upon information shared at design progress meetings in order to keep the project team up to date and constantly aware of where the project budget stands.
